Does my house qualify for an SEAI grant by its age?
Most SEAI grants have a rule about when your home was built. The dates are not all the same, so it is worth knowing which applies to the grant you want.

The age rules, by grant
- Solar (solar PV and solar water heating): built and occupied before 2025 (SEAI widened this from before 2021 in October 2026).
- Heat pump: built and occupied before 2021.
- Insulation and heating controls: built and occupied before 2011.
- Windows and doors: built and occupied before 2011. The walls and attic must be well insulated by the end of the job, either already or in the same project.
The idea is that these grants are for improving existing homes, so very new homes, which are already built to a high energy standard, are outside them.

Does my house have to be a certain age for an SEAI grant?
Usually yes. For solar it is built and occupied before 2025. For a heat pump it is before 2021. For insulation, heating controls and windows and doors it is before 2011. Check the grant's own page.
Why the 2011 date for windows and doors?
The windows and doors grant is aimed at older homes. The walls and attic must be well insulated by the end of the job. You can insulate in the same project. The pre-2011 rule targets it at homes that predate the higher building standards.
My home is brand new, can I still get a grant?
Generally no. Very new homes are already built to a high energy standard, so they fall outside these grants.
How do I check the build date rule for my grant?
