What it is
Toward rooftop solar panels for your home.
Who can get it
- You own the home, including private landlords, owner management companies and Approved Housing Bodies, applying as an individual rather than through a company
- The home was built and occupied before 2021 and has an electricity connection (an MPRN)
- The home has not had a solar PV grant before at this MPRN, and you are not claiming under any other SEAI or State grant scheme for the same system
- You get grant approval before the work starts and use an SEAI registered contractor whose company registration is active both when you apply and when the grant is paid
- The grant is paid per kWp of panels: €700 for each of the first 2kWp, then €200 for each extra kWp, up to the €1,800 maximum (held at €1,800 for 2026).
- Once you have grant approval you have 8 months to finish the work and send in the documents.
- A post-works BER is needed after the panels go in.
- You can only use a One Stop Shop for solar if you are doing several upgrades at once. Otherwise apply yourself with a registered contractor.
- Only one solar PV system per property is grant-funded, and it cannot be combined with any other grant or State support toward the same panels.
- Your contractor needs a Safe Electric Certificate (Certificate Number 3) for the installation, and if your grant claim is €10,000 or more, tax clearance is required.
- If your home also has a Defective Concrete Blocks (Mica) grant, this SEAI grant can be claimed on top of it under Clause 40 of the Mica scheme's terms, they are not mutually exclusive.
- Giving false information, or breaching the terms after payment, can mean SEAI reclaims the grant.
