Jobseeker's Transitional Payment
€254 a week for a lone parent whose youngest child is aged 7 to 13, with part time work allowed.
Last checked July 2026
What it is
A payment for lone parents whose youngest child is aged 7 to 13, bridging the gap after One-Parent Family Payment ends. It relaxes the usual jobseeker rule that you must be fully unemployed, so you can work part-time and still get it. The personal rate is €254 a week plus a Child Support Payment for each child, and the first €165 of your weekly earnings is not counted, with half of the rest assessed.
Who can get it
- You are parenting alone
- Your youngest child is aged 7 to 13 inclusive
- You are not cohabiting
- It relaxes the usual rule that you must be fully unemployed, so you can work part time around school hours and still get it.
- The first €165 you earn each week is not counted at all, and only half of anything above that is assessed.
- It is designed as the bridge after One Parent Family Payment ends, which is the point at which most people assume the support stops.
