Insulation grants
Attic insulation is a fixed amount by house type: €2,000 detached, €1,500 semi-detached or end-of-terrace, €1,400 mid-terrace, €1,100 apartment (higher, up to €2,500/€1,900/€1,800/€1,400, if you're a first-time buyer or on a qualifying welfare payment). Wall insulation varies by type and home: cavity €700-€1,800, internal €1,500-€4,500, external €3,000-€8,000.

What it is
Attic, cavity, internal and external wall insulation.
Who can get it
- Your home was built and occupied before 2011 (attic insulation) or before 31 December 2010 (wall insulation), and has an electricity connection (an MPRN)
- You own the home, or are a company, owner management company, registered charity, Approved Housing Body, or a private or commercial landlord of the property
- You have grant approval from SEAI in place before any work starts
- You use an SEAI registered contractor, or have a One Stop Shop manage the job for you
- Attic insulation is usually the most cost-effective upgrade. A house loses around 20 to 30% of its heat through the roof.
- There are three types of wall insulation: cavity, internal and external. If you've already had a grant for cavity insulation, you can apply for internal or external next. If you've had internal, you can apply for external only. If you've already had EXTERNAL wall insulation, you cannot get a second wall insulation grant, there's no further upgrade after that.
- Wall insulation must cover the whole home, a whole-surface solution, all your external walls need to be insulated. Partial insulation, for example just one or two walls, does not qualify.
- You cannot get a second attic insulation grant at the same address (the same MPRN), even years later.
- In an apartment, only a top-floor unit, or one losing heat through the roof, qualifies for the attic grant.
- First-time buyers and homeowners on a qualifying welfare payment get a higher fixed amount for attic insulation.
- If wall insulation work affects more than 25% of your home's external wall surface area, Building Regulations require your home to reach a B2 BER rating, or already have a compliant heating system and attic insulation in place.
