The HSE funds fertility treatment, including IUI, IVF and ICSI. Eligible couples can get one free round of IVF or ICSI. It is not means tested. You start by speaking to your GP, who refers you to a regional fertility hub.

Questions people ask

How many free IVF cycles do you get from the HSE?

Eligible couples get one free round of IVF or ICSI, using your own eggs and sperm. Treatment with donor eggs or sperm is not covered under the free scheme.

Who qualifies for free IVF in Ireland?

The main conditions are that the woman is under 41 and the man under 60 at referral, the woman's BMI is between 18.5 and 30, you are resident in the Republic of Ireland, you have been together at least a year, and there are specific rules if either of you already has a child. Can I refer myself for HSE fertility treatment?

No. Only a GP or a consultant can refer you to one of the regional fertility hubs. You cannot refer yourself.
