HSE Fertility Treatment (IVF, ICSI, IUI)
The HSE funds fertility treatment, including IUI, IVF and ICSI. Eligible couples can get one free round of IVF or ICSI. It is not means tested. You start by speaking to your GP, who refers you to a regional fertility hub.
What it is
Publicly funded fertility treatment through the HSE. Your GP refers you to a regional fertility hub, and eligible couples can get one free round of IVF or ICSI.
Who can get it
- The woman is under 41 and the man is under 60 at the time of referral
- You are resident in the Republic of Ireland
- The woman's BMI is between 18.5 and 30
- Neither of you has a living child together (some conditions apply if either of you has a child from a previous relationship)
- You have been in a relationship with your partner for at least one year
- You cannot refer yourself. Your GP or a consultant refers you to one of the regional fertility hubs.
- It currently covers one free cycle of IVF or ICSI using your own eggs and sperm. Treatment using donor eggs or sperm is not covered.
- Budget 2025 announced plans to widen access, so check the HSE page for the latest.
- There are separate criteria for IUI.
