Heat pump systems

Up to €14,500 towards a heat pump for a house. An apartment can get up to €11,500. An air to air system can get up to €9,500, or €7,500 through a One Stop Shop.

What it is

Toward a heat pump and related upgrades where your home is suitable. SEAI's heat pump system grant bundle is up to €14,500 (up to €11,500 for an apartment) and includes a €2,000 Boiler Scrappage grant where an oil or gas boiler, an electric storage system or a solid fuel system is being removed. It is also paid to homeowners without central heating where a heat pump is being installed. An air to air heat pump has its own amount, up to €9,500. Replacing an existing heat pump that hasn't had SEAI support before gets a smaller amount, up to €6,500.

Who can get it

You own the home, whether as an owner occupier, landlord, company, charity or Approved Housing Body (holiday homes also qualify)
The home was built and occupied before 2021 and has an electricity connection (an MPRN)
If you apply yourself and the home was built before 2007, it needs a technical assessment unless a valid BER already shows a Heat Loss Indicator of 2.3 or under. A Heat Loss Indicator of 2.3 or under must be reached before the grant is paid, so insulation or other upgrades may be needed first. SEAI says homes built from 2007 on do not need a technical assessment and fabric upgrades are not mandatory, but its July 2026 FAQ says a Heat Loss Indicator of 2.3 or under must still be reached before the individual heat pump grant is paid, so ask your installer to check. Since July 2026 the 2.3 Heat Loss Indicator threshold no longer applies when a heat pump is installed through a One Stop Shop

SEAI's heat pump page now shows a €2,000 Boiler Scrappage grant as part of the bundle, for removing an oil or gas boiler, an electric storage system or a solid fuel system. It is also paid to homeowners without central heating where a heat pump is being installed. gov.ie says it applies straight away for eligible applicants. For a heat pump application where the work is not yet finished or where you have already sent in your Declaration of Works (SEAI's form confirming the job is finished) and are waiting for payment, SEAI says the extra €2,000 is applied automatically where you are eligible. SEAI's page also says that if you already have an application you will be asked to show you are eligible for each of the three grant amounts. You need grant approval before the work starts.
The grant is a bundle of three. SEAI shows up to €10,500 for the heat pump unit, up to €2,000 for central heating and a €2,000 Boiler Scrappage grant for removing an oil or gas boiler, an electric storage system or a solid fuel system. The Boiler Scrappage grant is also paid to homeowners without central heating where a heat pump is being installed. That is up to €14,500 for a house and up to €11,500 for an apartment.
If you're replacing an existing heat pump that hasn't had SEAI support before, you can only get up to €6,500 (€4,500 for an apartment), not the full bundle. The old unit must not still be covered by a manufacturer or installer warranty, including one you lost by missing its servicing. You do not qualify for the €2,000 Boiler Scrappage grant or the €2,000 central heating grant.
If you apply yourself, homes built before 2007 need a technical assessment to check heat loss. SEAI says it must be completed before you apply for the grant. There is a €200 grant towards it, paid only if you also apply for the heat pump grant. You can skip the assessment with a Self-Declaration Form if your existing BER already shows a low enough Heat Loss Indicator (2.3 or under). Homes built from 2007 on do not need the assessment at all.
If your SEAI grants add up to more than €10,000 in one calendar year, SEAI will only pay once you give it a Tax Clearance Certificate from Revenue. The full heat pump bundle for a house is over that amount on its own.
An air to air heat pump does not provide hot water. SEAI's heat pump page shows up to €9,500 for it. Through a One Stop Shop the air to air grant is €7,500.
You can manage the job yourself, or let a One Stop Shop handle it and take the grant off the price upfront.
The grant can never be more than the total cost of the works.
There has been 0% VAT on heat pump installations since 1 January 2025, as long as it is claimed in a single contract or invoice.
Since February 2026 SEAI says homeowners on its listed islands may qualify for additional grant support. It does not publish the amount, so contact SEAI before you start works.
Once your grant offer arrives you have 30 days to accept it. You then have eight months from the date of the offer to finish the work and send in the paperwork.
You cannot also claim the €700 heating controls grant. SEAI does not pay it if you are applying for or have already claimed a heat pump system grant.
For an apartment the heat pump system grant is up to €11,500. That is made up of up to €8,500 for the heat pump system, up to €1,000 for central heating works where needed and up to €2,000 for the boiler scrappage grant.
A post-works BER is needed before the grant is paid. SEAI gives €50 towards it (€280 for homeowners on a qualifying welfare payment, per SEAI's Homeowner Application Guide), paid only on your first grant application.
