What it is
Free diabetic eye screening for everyone in Ireland with type 1 or type 2 diabetes aged 12 or over. Diabetes can damage the eyes over time, so regular screening catches changes early, and any treatment you need is free too. Usually offered once a year.
Who can get it
- You have type 1 or type 2 diabetes
- You are aged 12 or over
- You are on the Diabetic RetinaScreen register, which is what triggers your appointment
- Screening is usually once a year and it takes very little time.
- If anything is found that needs treatment, the treatment is free as well.
- Diabetes can affect your eyes long before you notice any change in your sight, which is the whole reason the screening exists.
