Boiler scrappage grant
€2,000, paid as part of the heat pump system grant bundle where an eligible heating system is removed or a home without central heating gets a heat pump.

What it is
A €2,000 Boiler Scrappage grant, part of the SEAI heat pump system grant bundle, where an oil or gas boiler, an electric storage system or a solid fuel system is being removed. SEAI also pays it to homeowners without central heating where a heat pump is being installed. It is the third part of a €14,500 bundle on SEAI's heat pump page. For homes built and occupied before 2021 with an MPRN. gov.ie says it applies straight away for eligible applicants. For a heat pump application where the work is not yet finished or where you have already sent in your Declaration of Works (the form confirming the job is finished) and are waiting for payment, SEAI says the €2,000 is applied automatically where you are eligible. SEAI also says that if you already have an application you will be asked to show you are eligible for each of the three grant amounts. You need grant approval before the work starts. A homeowner replacing an existing heat pump that has not had SEAI support before does not qualify for it.
Who can get it
- You own the home
- You are installing a heat pump system that replaces an oil or gas boiler, an electric storage system or a solid fuel system. It is also paid where a home with no central heating gets a heat pump
- The home was built and occupied before 2021 and has an electricity connection (an MPRN)
- You use an SEAI registered contractor and have grant approval before the work starts
- You apply for the heat pump system grant, choosing Heat Pump System on the Measures page of SEAI's online application. If you already have an application SEAI says you will be asked to show you are eligible for each of the three grant amounts.
- Whether you get the boiler scrappage and central heating amounts depends on your contractor's installation design.
- A home replacing a heat pump that SEAI did not fund before does not qualify for the €2,000.
