The Warmer Homes Scheme is free, but it is very popular, so there can be a long wait between qualifying and the work being done. Here is what affects your place in the queue, and a way to get some of the work sooner without losing that place.

What affects your wait
The scheme sees to the homes that need it most first: older homes (broadly pre-1993) with a low energy rating (BER E, F or G) tend to be prioritised. Once you qualify on a welfare payment, there can still be a wait of many months up to a couple of years, because demand is high and the works are carried out in order of priority and area.
How to get insulation sooner
You do not have to sit and wait for the full Warmer Homes package. If you qualify for it, you can also apply directly for the individual attic or wall insulation grants yourself, and doing so does not lose your place on the Warmer Homes list. So you can get the attic done now (up to €2,500) and the walls (up to €2,300) while you wait for the rest.
