What it is
Towards renewing or repairing the thatched roof of a house you live in: up to €3,810 or two-thirds of the cost, rising to €6,350 (up to 80%) if you hold a medical card, and higher again on the specified offshore islands.
Who can get it
- You own and live in a house with a thatched roof
- The works renew or repair the thatch and are approved before you start
- You are claiming the standard rate, or the higher rate if you hold a medical card or live on a specified offshore island
- The standard grant is up to €3,810, or two-thirds of the approved cost, whichever is less. On the specified islands it is up to €5,714.
- Medical card holders can get up to €6,350, or up to 80% of the cost, and up to €8,252 on the islands.
- Get approval before starting the work. There is a separate Historic Thatched Buildings Grant (up to €20,000) for thatched buildings of special heritage value.
