Solar Investment Scheme
A grant of 60% of your approved costs on solar PV panels, inverters, controllers and batteries, up to €90,000, and that €90,000 is ring-fenced so it does not come out of your other TAMS 3 ceilings.
Last checked August 2026
What it is
Grant aid at 60% for solar PV panels, inverters, controllers and rechargeable batteries on the farm. Its €90,000 ceiling is ring-fenced and separate from your other TAMS ceilings, so it does not eat into them.
Who can get it
- You have at least 5 hectares declared under BISS, or 20 production units.
- You are putting solar PV panels, panels with inverter and controller, or a solar PV rechargeable battery on the holding.
- You are spending at least €2,000 in the application.
- You farm pigs or poultry and want the pig and poultry versions of the panels or the battery, which are on the same list.
- You apply online through your agfood.ie account before the tranche closes. Tranche 13 closes 4 September 2026 and Tranche 14 closes 4 December 2026.
- The €90,000 is ring-fenced and separate from your other TAMS 3 ceilings. Solar does not eat into the money you have for housing, storage or equipment.
- A registered farm partnership gets €90,000 here as well. The partnership ceiling is not lifted to €160,000 the way it is in most other TAMS 3 schemes.
- Only 10% of eligible applications were selected in Tranche 12, the joint lowest in TAMS 3 alongside Low Emission Slurry Spreading. Nine out of ten applicants did not get in.
- The battery is eligible in its own right, and panels can be claimed with the inverter and controller included.
- The minimum spend is €2,000, and you are allowed more than one application in the same tranche.

Questions people ask
How much is the solar grant for farmers?
It pays 60% of your approved costs, up to €90,000. Solar PV panels, panels supplied with the inverter and controller, and solar PV rechargeable batteries are all eligible, along with the pig and poultry versions of both.
Does solar use up the €90,000 I want for a shed?
No. The Solar ceiling of €90,000 is ring-fenced and separate from the other TAMS 3 ceilings. You can claim solar and still have your general €90,000 for housing, storage and equipment.
Do farm partnerships get a higher solar ceiling?
No. Most TAMS 3 schemes lift the ceiling to €160,000 for a registered farm partnership, but Solar stays at €90,000 for a partnership. Factor that in before planning a joint installation.
What are my chances of being selected?
Poor. Only 10% of eligible solar applications were selected in Tranche 12. Where applications outstrip the budget, Ranking and Selection decides who gets funded. Apply by all means, but do not sign a contract with an installer until you have approval.
