Maternity Benefit
€299 a week for 26 weeks while you are on maternity leave. A half rate applies if you already get certain other welfare payments.

What it is
Weekly payment while on maternity leave, if you have enough PRSI contributions.
Who can get it
- You are employed or self-employed and going on maternity leave
- You are covered by social insurance (PRSI)
- You have enough PRSI contributions, for example 39 weeks paid in the 12 months before your leave starts
- Your leave must start at least 2 weeks before the end of the week your baby is due, no earlier than 16 weeks before.
- You can take a further 16 weeks of unpaid maternity leave after the paid period.
- The payment is taxable if you pay tax, but no USC or PRSI is charged on it.
