What it is

Cost Rental Tenant in Situ (CRTiS). If you are renting privately and your landlord serves a valid notice to end the tenancy because they intend to sell, the State can buy the home through the Housing Agency and let you stay on, with your landlord's agreement. The Housing Agency becomes your landlord. You keep paying the rent you paid before. It can rise only as the private tenancy rules allow. It is not yet a standard cost rental home. The scheme is intended to move to a standard cost rental tenancy later. The rent may be reviewed then. You must not be seeking to buy the home yourself, own another home or be getting HAP or RAS. The local authority must assess you as at risk of homelessness. Your net household income must be within the limit of €66,000 in Dublin or €59,000 elsewhere. Bring your notice of termination to your local authority to start.
