Is there a grant for a new gas or oil boiler?

Short answer: no. There is no SEAI or government grant to install or replace a gas or oil boiler, or any other fossil-fuel central heating system.

Last checked July 2026

Why there is no boiler grant

SEAI's home energy grants cover attic insulation, wall insulation, windows and doors, heat pumps, heating controls, solar electricity and solar water heating. A like-for-like gas or oil boiler is not on that list.

The funding is designed to move homes off fossil fuels, not to keep them on. The Heat Pump grant even carries a Renewable Heat Bonus specifically for de-carbonising an existing oil or gas system. So the money is there to help you leave oil and gas behind, not to replace them.

Questions people ask

Can I get a grant for a new boiler?

No. There is no SEAI or government grant for installing or replacing a gas or oil boiler in Ireland.

Is there a grant to replace my oil boiler?

Not for a like-for-like oil boiler. But if you switch to a heat pump, the SEAI Heat Pump grant is worth up to €12,500 and includes a bonus for moving off a fossil-fuel system.

What about a gas boiler grant?

The same as oil. There is no grant to fit or replace a gas boiler. The grants are aimed at renewable heating and insulation instead.

How do I get help if I cannot afford my heating?

If you get a qualifying welfare payment you may qualify for the Warmer Homes Scheme, which fully funds upgrades for free. It is also worth checking the Fuel Allowance and other supports, which the assistant can do for you.
